Mailboxes of Distinction are custom mailbox structures. We produce a variety of specialty letterbox compartments and each of our architectural mailboxes contains one or more of these letterbox compartments that we have designed.
The United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S) Domestic Mail Manual states that a homeowner may construct a custom built curbside mail box and that local postmasters are authorized to approve these custom structures. The custom built box (letter compartment) “must conform generally to the same requirements as approved manufactured boxes relative to the flag, size, strength and quality of construction.” At Mailboxes of Distinction we make every effort to meet these important standards. It is the responsibility of each mailbox owner to contact their local postmaster for approval of their mailbox. The structure surrounding our letter compartments is not regulated by the United States Postal Service, but may be subject to local restrictions (See Mailbox Regulations page).
